Dear Friend,

I am so excited you are here!  Thank you for finding me on the Internet.  Penpal_2

This is my very first website, and I am planning so many fun things for us to do together!

Every
month, I will give you a new creative challenge and ask you to draw me
a picture, write a poem, or create some other kind of art.  Then, you
can send me a copy of it and share it on this website if you want to.

I will be writing a lot in my online diary (a.k.a. Savannah Blue’s Blog) so you can read about my life with my mom
Soodle, my sisters Josie Louise and Jezebel, and my friends.  I have so
many good thoughts and secrets to share with you, I just hope I can
remember them long enough to type them here.  (Typing with Great Dane
paws is a little tricky!)

From this site, you can always write
to me, too!  I LOVE getting letters.  Soodle says email is even faster
than the regular postal mail.  Is that true?  I sure hope so because
I’m a very busy girl and I don’t like to wait very long. 

So,

Winter is coming!

My sisters and I have been enjoying the fall weather here in North Carolina. It has been warm and mostly sunny. Last week the colder weather finally moved in, though. Soodle says Winter starts this week.

Do you think that means the snow will come?

More Mail and Summer Clean Up

I got MORE mail!  I am so HAPPY!!

Sarah L. sent me a message saying that her favorite thing to do in the summer is to go to the beach.  Sarah lives in California and her parents take her to the ocean on hot, summer days.  She says she has seen whales spouting out in the deep water, and sometimes she sees seals closer to shore.  

What about you? Do you live near an ocean, lake, river, or stream?  Do you like to swim or wade or splash there?  What animals do you see when you visit the water?

 

I found this message that reminds us why it’s important to pick up trash when we visit the ocean or the lake. Click on the white triangle in the center of the pink dot to listen (and make sure the volume on your computer is turned up).

Did you know that trash thrown on the sidewalk, into the street, or even in your own yard could end up in streams, rivers, lakes or even the ocean?  When it rains, the rainwater carries trash with it into the storm drains in the street and these drains funnel the water to nearby streams where the trash can begin to cause problems for the fish, birds, and other animals who live there.

So this summer, maybe you could make a habit of picking up trash whenever you see it.  I like to do this, too.  I have to pick up trash with my mouth, but you’re lucky–you can use your hands!  (Just remember to wash them afterward!)

Rainy Day Mail

I got mail!!  This makes me SO happy!  Mail is one of my most favorite things in the whole world.

Ny S. wrote to tell me about Sunga, a labrador-rottweiler-doberman-airdale mix who likes to eat latkas with sour cream – YUM! – and listen to Elvis songs.  Sounds like Sunga has quite the life!

What does your animal companion like to eat? (You can find my favorites listed here). Does your animal friend have special music he or she likes to listen to? I like to listen to anything that makes my mom Soodle happy. And I like to listen to the frogs in our pond.

It is raining here today. That means there are mud puddles calling my name! I gotta' go – there's lots of wet fun to be had in the meadow and the woods today!

School’s Out for Summer!

My mom Soodle says most of the kids we know are out of school for the summer, so we won't be going to classes to say hello and read our books for a few months. This makes me a little sad because I LOVE visiting schools, but Soodle says most kids are happy to have some time off.

What about you?  Are you out of school for the summer?  Does this make you happy or sad?  Are you bored already or do you have a long list of things you want to do while the weather is warm and the days are long?

My sisters and I are looking forward to long walks in the woods and swimming in the pond with the frogs, tadpoles, and baby Koi.

They are wearing their bunny ears for Easter! I think the pink ears coordinate well with their pink tongues?  What do you think?

Snow Day!!

It snowed yesterday!  I LOVE SNOW!! Unfortunately, we don't get a lot of snow here in the middle of North Carolina.  So when we do, Soodle declares a Snow Day, just like if we were in school, and she stays home and makes art and lets my sisters and me play in the meadow and the woods as long as we want.

Of course, a few minutes later I was covered in the white stuff and Soodle said I looked like a Great Dane shaped snow man.  She didn't even mind when I shook snow all over the floor after I came galloping inside.  We had the best day!
